Breast Reduction Scottsdale

Breast reduction, also known as reduction mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure that is aimed to reduce breast size and reshape them in proportion to the rest of the body so that they are no longer a source of discomfort. Not only does it improve the physical appearance of the patient, it also relieves the physical and emotional burden of large breasts.

Good Candidates for Breast Reduction

Women who opt for breast reduction may be overweight, estrogen-sensitive, or have a predisposition for disproportionate or large breasts. Large breasts are genetic and are usually inherited from the mother’s side of the family.

The following are some of the most common reasons why women go for breast reduction:

  • Neck aches, backaches, shoulder pain, and skin irritation under the breasts
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Grooves on the shoulders from bra straps
  • Poor posture
  • Numbness in the breasts or upper chest due to excessively heavy breasts
  • Difficulty buying blouses and dresses that fit
  • Unhappiness with one’s appearance because of large breasts

Those with the following issues may be poor candidates for the procedure:

  • Undiagnosed lumps
  • Irregular mammograms
  • Diabetes
  • Severe obesity
  • Smoking
  • Clotting disorders
  • Circulatory disorders

Those who are currently breastfeeding should avoid this procedure for the time being.

How Is the Procedure Performed?

The surgery usually takes three to four hours and is performed in a surgical center or a hospital. It is typically performed on an outpatient basis. Anesthesia is administered before the procedure begins.

The shape and size of your breasts and the reduction you want are factors that will dictate the most suitable incision technique for your surgery. There are many options for incision patterns, including the donut pattern, the lollipop pattern, and the anchor pattern. The anchor is ideal for the largest degree of tissue reduction.

Once the incisions have been created, the surgeon removes excess fat, breast tissue, and skin, and the areolae and nipples are shifted to a slightly higher position. Skin that was above the nipple is brought down to reshape the patient’s breast. In rare cases, especially if your breasts are especially large, the surgeon will completely detach the areolae and nipples before shifting them to a higher position.

Breast Reduction through Liposuction

Another option, which is appropriate only for a select group of women, is reduction solely through liposuction. Liposuction is the right option for you if you have fatty breasts, are looking for a moderate reduction, and don’t need to correct sagging skin. Here are a few things you should consider:

  • Once women hit menopause, the breast tissue is replaced by fat. This makes postmenopausal women the best candidates for a liposuction reduction.
  • Patients with minimal fat and fibrous tissue are not good candidates for this procedure.
  • Poor skin with little elasticity, low nipple position, and ptosis are also contraindications.
  • Liposuction is sometimes used to treat breast asymmetries up to one cup size.
  • Following a liposuction, the elasticity of the skin causes it to contract, followed by a subsequent uplifting of the breast contours.
