Labiaplasty Procedure in Scottsdale and Phoenix, AZ
Jump To
Are you interested in labiaplasty but are not sure if the procedure can address the issues you have? When it comes to plastic surgery, there are two categories: functional (performed to treat medical conditions) and cosmetic procedure (performed for aesthetic enhancement/correction). Labiaplasty is a procedure that can be used for either or both of these purposes. At our plastic surgery center, we offer labiaplasty in Scottsdale for women for both aesthetic and functional purposes.
What Is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty is a procedure performed to correct or enhance the appearance and/or functionality of the labia. Vaginal rejuvenation has evolved over the years and is a popular choice for many women.
The labia are the sets of lip-like sections of skin found in the area surrounding the vulva. There are two main types of labiaplasty surgery: correction of the outer labia (labia majora) and correction of the inner labia (labia minora).
Labiaplasty is a genital surgery that can be performed for several reasons. The natural shape, color, and size of the labial lips generally change as a result of the aging process, childbirth, and several other reasons. Labiaplasty can correct their size, shape, color, and/or symmetry.
In some cases, issues are caused by the twisting of the labia during strenuous activity. Correction of this might involve the manipulation of the labia minora so that it doesn’t extend beyond the labia majora.
Whether it’s being used to treat congenital issues or for other reasons, this genital surgery is found to be a very effective option.
The Labiaplasty Procedure – What to Expect
Anesthesia for labiaplasty
As with other surgeries, labiaplasty surgery starts with the administration of anesthesia to the patient in order to make the procedure more comfortable and painless. Considering the simplicity of the surgery, local anesthesia and IV sedation may be all that is required. For some cases, however, the surgeon might prescribe general anesthesia.
Talk about your anesthesia plan with your surgeon well before the surgery. Also, mention your allergies and the regular medications you take – you might be asked to keep a check on these medications to ensure that they do not interfere with the anesthesia.
Labiaplasty overview
The steps of the surgery vary based on the type of labiaplasty being performed and the problem at hand. Generally, the body procedure involves the creation of precise incisions in the region, which are well camouflaged to preserve a natural and inconspicuous appearance.
Once the incisions have been made, the surgeon is able to trim and remove skin and fatty tissue from various locations. A small portion of the labia may be trimmed. If required, the clitoral folds are reduced.
To finish the procedure, the incisions are then stitched closed with sutures. For labiaplasty, dissolvable stitches are used in almost all the cases. Because of this, there will be no need to have them removed during a follow-up appointment.
What to Expect After the Labiaplasty Surgery
Following labiaplasty surgery, your body will need to recover from the procedure. This does not take especially long. During the process, it will be extremely important that you follow your plastic surgeon’s post-surgical care instructions as closely as you can. This can lower the risk of complications, preserve the quality of your results, and speed up the recovery period.
The stitches from labiaplasty heal in a matter of a few days. Itching and swelling are typical side-effects of this procedure, but they are only temporary and will reduce over the course of a few days. Use of a cold pack might be prescribed to aid the process.
Most patients are able to return to work a week after the surgery. It will be important to avoid intercourse and other physical activities for around three to six weeks as the tissues in the region heal. After around three months, all healing will be complete.
